What affects the cost of EV charger installation?
The main factors are: (1) distance from your electrical panel to the charger location, (2) whether your panel needs an upgrade, (3) whether wiring must go through finished walls, (4) whether concrete drilling or trenching is needed, and (5) whether you need us to supply the charger unit. Photos of your panel and parking area help us give an accurate quote without a site visit.
Is a site visit required before installation?
Not always. If you upload clear photos of your electrical panel (with door open) and your parking/garage area, we can usually provide an accurate quote without visiting first. This saves you time and gets the job scheduled faster. A site visit is only needed for complex installations.

Do I need a permit for EV charger installation in Ontario?
Yes. In Ontario, installing a dedicated 240V circuit for an EV charger requires an electrical permit and ESA (Electrical Safety Authority) inspection. This is not optional — it's required by law and protects your home, your warranty, and your home insurance. What is an ESA inspection?
The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) is Ontario's electrical regulator. After any permitted electrical work, an ESA inspector visits to verify the installation meets Ontario's Electrical Safety Code. We coordinate the inspection date and ensure our work passes on the first visit. The inspection is required before the work is considered legally complete.
Does my home insurance require a permitted EV charger installation?
Most home insurance policies require electrical work to be properly permitted and inspected. An unpermitted EV charger installation could void your insurance coverage in the event of a fire or electrical incident. Always insist on a licensed electrician who pulls the proper permits — which is exactly what we do.

What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 EV charging?
Level 1 uses a standard 120V wall outlet and adds roughly 5–8 km of range per hour — requiring 10+ hours to recover a typical day of Toronto driving. Level 2 uses a dedicated 240V circuit and adds 25–50 km per hour — a full overnight charge for most EVs. Level 2 is the standard for home EV charging and what we install.
How fast is Level 2 charging?
A Level 2 charger delivers 25–50 km of range per hour depending on the charger's amperage and your EV's onboard charger capacity. A 40-amp charger adds about 40 km/hour — enough to fully charge most EVs overnight in 4–8 hours.
Can I use my dryer outlet for EV charging?
Technically a dryer outlet (NEMA 14-30) can power a portable EVSE, but it's not recommended for regular EV charging. Dryer outlets aren't rated for continuous high-amperage loads, which EV charging creates. We recommend installing a dedicated NEMA 14-50 outlet or hardwired Level 2 charger on its own circuit for safe, reliable charging.
How many amps does an EV charger need?
Most Level 2 home chargers operate at 32–48 amps, requiring a dedicated 40–60 amp circuit breaker. The Tesla Wall Connector uses a 60-amp breaker. JuiceBox 40 uses a 50-amp breaker. We select the right circuit size for your chosen charger and panel capacity.
Is hardwired better than plug-in (NEMA 14-50)?
Hardwired Level 2 chargers support higher amperage (up to 80A) and have a cleaner installation — no plug, no outlet. Plug-in NEMA 14-50 chargers offer more flexibility since you can change the charger unit without rewiring. For Tesla owners and high-range EVs, hardwired is typically better. For most other EV owners, a NEMA 14-50 is excellent and slightly more flexible.
What is the best EV charger for Canadian winters?
Cold weather reduces battery efficiency, making reliable home charging essential in Canada. Top choices for Canadian winters: (1) Grizzl-E Classic or Smart — Canadian-made, rated to -40°C, proven in harsh conditions. (2) JuiceBox 40 — excellent cold weather performance. Are Tesla chargers universal now?
Yes. Since Tesla adopted the CCS1 standard in North America, the Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3 is compatible with most non-Tesla EVs using the appropriate adapter. Tesla Superchargers are also now open to non-Tesla vehicles at most GTA locations. This makes the Tesla Wall Connector a versatile choice even if you switch vehicles in the future.

Will I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?
Most post-2000 Toronto homes with a 200A panel can support a Level 2 charger without upgrades. Older homes with 100A panels often need an upgrade. Our licensed electrician assesses your panel as part of every free quote — at no charge. We tell you exactly what's needed before any work begins.
Can a 100-amp panel support EV charging?
Sometimes — but it depends on your existing electrical loads. If your home has electric heat, an electric stove, and a dryer all running simultaneously, a 100A panel may not have spare capacity for a 40–60 amp EV charger circuit. In many cases, a 100A to 200A upgrade is the safest and most future-proof solution. We assess this free with every quote.
Can I charge two EVs at home?
Yes. We can install two separate Level 2 charger circuits, or a single smart charger with load-sharing capability that splits available power between two vehicles. If you're planning for a second EV in the future, let us know — we can future-proof your wiring during the initial installation at minimal extra cost.
Is there an existing 240V outlet I can use?
If your garage already has a NEMA 14-50 or similar 240V outlet on a properly sized circuit, you may be able to plug in a Level 2 charger without new wiring. We check this during every quote. If the existing outlet isn't on a dedicated circuit or isn't rated for continuous EV charging loads, we recommend installing a proper dedicated circuit.

Can I install an EV charger in a Toronto condo?
Yes — with condo board or property management approval. Once approved, we handle the full installation including wiring, individual metering, and ESA inspection. Can I install a charger in a detached garage?
Yes. Detached garage installations require running conduit from your main panel to the garage — either underground (trenching) or overhead. We handle all types of detached garage installations and use weather-rated materials for Canadian conditions. Distance and access affect pricing, which we assess during your free quote.
Will wiring through finished walls cause damage?
We minimize wall damage whenever possible by routing through unfinished basement ceilings, attic spaces, or exterior conduit. When drywall cutting is unavoidable, we cut neatly and can patch and paint. We discuss the routing plan with you before starting work so there are no surprises.
Is concrete drilling or trenching required?
Sometimes. Trenching is needed for underground conduit runs to detached garages or outdoor charging locations. Concrete drilling may be needed for wall penetrations. We identify this during your quote and include it in the upfront price — no surprise charges.

Are there rebates for EV charger installation in Toronto in 2026?
As of 2026, there are no active federal or Ontario provincial rebates specifically for home EV charger installation. Both the ZEVIP and ChargeON programs have closed. However, Toronto Hydro's PeakSaver program offers $1,000 for qualifying Level 2 installations, and Alectra Utilities (serving parts of the GTA) offers $500 for smart chargers. Check with your utility provider.
How do I qualify for Toronto Hydro's PeakSaver $1,000 rebate?
You must be a Toronto Hydro customer, install a smart Level 2 charger that can participate in demand response programs, and enroll in the PeakSaver program. We recommend smart chargers that qualify and provide the documentation you need for the application after installation.
Does a smart charger save money on electricity in Ontario?
Yes. Ontario uses Time-of-Use (TOU) pricing where overnight electricity rates are significantly cheaper than daytime rates. A standard Level 2 charger installation takes 2–4 hours. Panel upgrades require a full day. We aim to complete every installation cleanly and efficiently, and we leave your home tidy when we're done.
What is an EV-ready rough-in?
An EV-ready rough-in means installing the dedicated 240V circuit and conduit now — before you actually need the charger. This is ideal if you're buying an EV soon or if you're building or renovating. When you're ready for the charger, the electrical work is already done and installation is faster and cheaper.
Do you supply chargers or just install them?
Both. We carry ChargePoint, JuiceBox, Grizzl-E, Flo, Eaton, Siemens, and Tesla Wall Connector. We can supply and install in one visit — or install a charger you already own. Either way, the same licensed electricians, same permits, same ESA inspection.

Can chargers be installed outdoors?
Yes. We install outdoor EV chargers in driveways, outside walls, and on outdoor pedestals using weather-rated NEMA 3R or NEMA 4 enclosures and UV-resistant conduit. All our outdoor installations are rated for Canadian winters including extreme cold, ice, and moisture.
Is winter weather a problem for EV chargers?
No — when properly installed. All chargers we supply are rated for Canadian winter conditions. Outdoor installations use weather-rated hardware and appropriate conduit sealing. Cold weather does reduce your EV's battery efficiency and range, but the charger itself is not affected by temperature.
